Humber Forest

Community under one canopy.

Humber Forest is the community forest for Hull and East Yorkshire, working with local communities, businesses, and landowners to increase tree cover, protect woodland, and improve the environment for future generations. We partnered with the organisation to transform its identity – redefining the brand to better reflect its purpose and impact.

While Humber Forest plays a vital role in tackling climate change and supporting community wellbeing, its identity needed to better communicate this in a clear, engaging, and inclusive way. Environmental organisations can often feel distant or overly technical, making it harder for people to see their place within the mission.

There was an opportunity to reposition the brand as something more collective and human – emphasising shared responsibility and the everyday connection people have with nature. The challenge was to create a unifying idea that brings together diverse audiences under a common purpose.

We began by evolving the brand through renaming and strategy, centring everything around the idea of “community under one canopy.” This message captures the role trees play in all of our lives – now and for generations to come – while expressing a sense of unity and shared ownership.

The visual identity brings this to life through an illustrated landscape, depicting people interacting with nature across the region. Recognisable landmarks such as The Deep, Flamborough Lighthouse, Humber Bridge, and Beverley Minster are woven into the scene – grounding the brand firmly in place and community.

Together, the strategy and visual language create a warm, inclusive brand that connects people to the environment – encouraging collective action while reinforcing the long-term importance of Humber Forest’s work.

We transformed the Humber Forest identity by starting with the renaming of the brand. We developed a brand strategy which focused on ‘community under one canopy’ – the brand message which reflects how trees are an integral part of all of our lives now and for generations to come. This paints the bigger picture of a shared community, bound under one canopy of trees.

The overarching brand message reflects how trees are an integral part of all of our lives now and for generations to come. The message pairs with an illustrated landscape which shows different people and their interaction with trees in the region, alongside landmark locations such as The Deep, Flamborough Lighthouse, The Humber Bridge, and Beverley Minster.

“Foundry were fantastic to work with when undergoing our rebrand & rename. They understood our needs, booked in regular meetings and kept us up to date through the whole process. The brand guidelines produced were clean and professional and have been very handy for stakeholders. Pat & Nat are approachable and friendly, and followed our guidance for what we wanted to create, but brought their own wealth of experience and creative suggestions, and were able to work very well to our deadline for a relaunch.”
